How is flow cytometry analysis organised in the FCCF at EPFL ?

General
The analyser instruments  are available for scientists to use in their own experiments by themselves once they have completed the necessary training. The analysers are maintained and cared for by the FCCF staff.

First time user
If you have never performed flow cytometry experiments at EPFL and you would like to start, please download the form 'Flow Cytometry Training FCCF EPFL'. FIll it in and then email it to
sv.cytometry@epfl.ch to schedule a training time. The aim of the training is to familiarise staff with the operating protocols used in the core facility, to demonstrate how to use the machines correctly, and to advise on how to set up and operate the instruments for successful experiments.

Once the training has been completed, access to the intranet booking system is granted and bookings can be made at the convenience of users.

IMPORTANT

All analyzer rooms in the FCCF must minimally follow BSL-1 guidelines.

No food or drinks are allowed in these rooms, and good laboratory practices must be followed.

The two Cyan's and the LSR II are BSL-1 machines. This applies to all users whether or not the samples are BSL-1, as the rooms can have multiple users at once.

Users desiring to run BSL-2 samples in the FCCF are authorized to run this samples only on the Accuri C6.

All human samples are considered BSL-2.

All samples to be run on our analyzers must be filtered just prior to running (this includes compensation controls) !

For protection of core laboratory personnel and users of the facility from exposure to occupational hazards it is imperative that all users of the flow cytometry core facility comply with our biosafety policy, irrespective of the type of samples that are run, and with all applicable EPFL-SV safety regulations.

Safety is not negotiable !!!!

CyAn ADP

We have two CyAN ADPS from Beckman Coulter at the EPFL . CyAn Cyril and Cyan Cynthia.

These are 9 colour 2 light scatter machines that allow you to do a broad range of flow cytometry experiments from one color through to measuring complex sub populations ex vivo with poly chromatic flow.

This is a BSL-1 machine !!!

LSR II

The LSR II SORP is equipped with 5 lasers and 20 active detectors to allow maximum flexibility for high end experimental design.

LSR II SORP Lasers :

  • 355 nm UV laser (60 mW)
  • 405 nm Violet laser (50 mW)
  • 488 nm Blue laser (100 mW)
  • 561 nm Yellow-Green laser (40 mW)
  • 640 nm Red laser (40 mW)
For more information download the file "LSR 2 Optical configuration" This is a BSL-1 machine !!!

Accuri C6 & CSampler

The Accuri C6 is equipped with 2 lasers and 4 active detectors to allow maximum flexibility for easy experimental design.

This machine is also equipped with a plate reader. CSampler is compatible with 48- and 96-well microplates and deep well plates, and also comes with a 24-tube rack for standard 12x75mm tubes. Multiple experiments can be run in a single plate, with settings being applied to specific wells or the entire plate.

This is a BSL-2 machine !!!
