Welcome to the Flow Cytometry Core Facility in the School of Life Sciences at the EPFL What is flow cytometry?Flow cytometry is the art of collecting scattered light and fluorescent light from particles that are flowing through a jet of solution past an illuminating laser beam and then using the differing properties of the scattered and fluorescent light to tell one cell from the other. Cell sorting takes this to the next level by allowing scientists to identify cells as they pass through the laser and then mark them for sorting: micro-seconds later, the marked cell has been deflected away from the rest of the sample and into a separate tube.
